This article talks about how their are two types of people. Those who can taste bitter and those who can't. they belive that the use of tasting bitter came from being able to taste poision, it was a defense for plants. This goes back to stone age humans tasteing or not tasting bitter. Howcome one didn't become dominant over milloins of years and kill off the other gene. This is a special circumstance where natural selection keeps both of these genes present. This is called balancing natural selection. They also beileve that it may have to do with the non-tasters can taste somthing that tasters can't. This has not been discovered yet though.
